I take so many pictures of my kids! I remember when Naomi
was born, she is the first, I would take pictures of her sleeping or just
laying on the floor looking cute. I would have 15 pictures of the same thing! I was obsessed with taking those pictures, and I usually sent them out to everyone I knew. Because who wouldn’t want all those beautiful pictures of my daughter?!
Now that I have 4 kids I do not take quite as many shots of the following
children, but they definitely get their fare share of pictures. And then add in the video cameras or phones and we constantly have something in our hands
recording the moment, normal or special!
I love to go back and look at those moments and remember and laugh. Justin’s family is great at retelling stories. I have been part of the family long enough to have heard them enough to know those stories and they are mine now. I feel as though I was there for the event. I love to be able to retell stories of my children. For them to hear me talk about them in a loving, carefree way is precious. It makes them know they are a special part of our family. And I love for them to hear stories from my childhood or my parent’s
life. As we share that history we are allowing them to let those stories become
their own. Having pictures to go with those stories adds another dimension to
the memory. Now we not only have the heard story, but a visible reminder of the
event, special or normal.
We recently ended a series called Vibrant Worhsip here at Peace where we introduced
new banners that will hang in our Sanctuary during different seasons of the
church year. These banners are full of images and pictures from stories of the
Bible. These are the stories that inform our worship, the stories that teach us
about our God. These are the stories from our ancestors in the Bible and they
are our stories. As we tell these stories over and over again and share images
and pictures, these stories become our own and our children’s. These stories
and images make our God so much more real and accessible. What a joy that our
God has given us a way to relate to him. He has given us a way to share him
with our children.
Enjoy those normal and special moments with and without your
camera. Retell those stories and take pictures of those times in your children’s lives that are special. Retell those stories and take pictures of those ordinary days that
capture the ‘normal’. And share the stories of your God and his workings in your life both old and new to your children so he can become real and accessible to them.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us!! After almost 43 years of marriage, we have so many photo albums that I may have to get ANOTHER book case just to store them. I’ve been scanning some of the old family photos with my daughter’s help onto CDs just so nothing will ever happen to them, we can share them and they don’t FADE. They create many hours of laughter and memories when we get together. Especially from the grandchildren!! Thank God for these time together!!
